There are several issues with Unionen and their services:
1. Local Representatives Policy
Unionen requires local representatives in companies, elected by members, as your first point of contact. While you can call Unionen, they won’t provide legal support if local reps are available. These reps are unpaid volunteers, not Unionen employees, with no liability or labor law expertise. Unionen can’t enforce training on them, so help depends entirely on their willingness. If they refuse, your only option is to avoid signing anything... until you’re fired—only then will Unionen assist. This system shifts Unionen’s responsibility onto members, who rarely challenge HR for fear of retaliation, often leaving you victimized or forced into poor deals. These reps have no ethical code and often act incompetently.
2. Inconsistent Ombudsman Quality
Unionen’s ombudsmen vary widely in competence:
• Some are unhelpful, ignoring questions and rejecting requests without reason.
• Others want to help but are poorly trained, offering bad advice and lowball offers.
• Rarely, you’ll find competent ombudsmen, but it’s random and unreliable.
3. Conflict Between Legal and Insurance Departments
Unionen’s legal department often undermines its insurance services. For example, if the legal team drafts contracts with errors, you may owe repayments to insurance funds like Unionen Inkomstförsäkring. In one case, I paid double tax and had to repay insurance benefits due to a poorly written severance clause. When I complained, the legal team dismissed it, claiming they don’t handle tax issues.
Unionen and its services, including Akassa and Inkomstförsäkring, exploit unemployed members while they are vulnerable. Most members lack resources to fight back in court when they are unemployed and stressed.
If Unionen fails you:
1. Escalate the case and demand a new ombudsman.
2. Get second or third legal opinions if possible.
3. Never sign anything under pressure or fear. Take your time, ask for details, and refuse to sign until issues are fixed. They use a lot of FUD tactics on members.
Their strategy is to burn you out. Stay persistent—they will eventually help you.
MY MOST IMPORTANT NOTE FOR YOU:
1. ALWAYS RECORD EVERYTHING WITH EMPLOYER AND UNIONEN; ALL PHYSICAL AND ONLINE MEETINGS WITHOUT LOSING A SECOND.
2. ALWAYS ASK FOR PROOFS; IF THEY TOLD YOU IF YOU GO TO THE COURT YOU WILL LOSE; TELL THEM TO SHOW YOH THE EXACT LAW AND REFERENCE COURT CASE FOR EVERY SCENARIO THAT MATCHES YOURS. THEY MIGHT SHOW YOU PARTIAL SCENARIO BUT YOU MUST ASK FOR MATCH. THEY ALWAYS BLUFF YOU OR TAKE BLUFFS FROM EMPLOYER. DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD COMING OUT OF THEIR MOUTH AND FOR EACH LEGAL STATEMENT ASK FOR DE JURE AND DE FACTO REFERENCE, IT IS THEIR JOB TO PROVIDE THEM.
