This place receives my award for “Worst gyn experience ever”.
I called to book a time, spoke Swedish first but then checked whether the person who answered the phone could speak English since I wasn’t sure my Swedish was enough to discuss medical stuff. I was replied with a “yes”, got the instructions on booking the time online in English so I got this as if my visit will be possibly supported in English if needed.
When I got there we spoke Swedish first but I checked whether the doctor was the one that I spoke to on the phone when I checked whether we could speak English, she said that it wasn’t her and that she’s not sure that we’ll be able to do that. I thought that I’ll manage in Swedish then.
So we spoke Swedish during my visit. Doctor seemed distant, cold, not so much interested and sometimes rude hurrying me up and saying that she has lots of other patients (am I not one of them? :D), showing irritation when I would ask on some terms that I didn’t understand in Swedish (saying “well I don’t speak Russian you know”. Well this lame sarcasm was very appropriate of course. Especially when I’ve been reasking in English when I’d miss those few terms. When I pointed out that no one expects any Russian she switched to English and explained everything she saw on the screen when doing the ultrasound in English without any struggling. Then she switched back to Swedish cause I continued speaking Swedish and said that I should’ve come with an interpreter (for those 3 words I didn’t understand, which were repeated by her in English when I asked to explain. She understood my Swedish perfectly.). It was also asked a couple of times whether they do traditional “chair” examinations in Russia (cause ‘there are such patients who are afraid and don’t want to undergo such and they can go home cause that’s how gyn visits work here’) - as well as whether ultrasound exists there, both times sounding sarcastic again. When an interpreter was mentioned for the second time I said that when I called I asked whether we could speak English and thought that it was the doctor who replied and she said that doctors don’t answer the phone in Sweden (NB: once I already booked an appointment by phone and that doctor had phone hours and replied herself). Even if there is a person who’s answering her phone and there’s someone calling and booking a time and asks whether English could be spoken - wouldn’t you mention that this doctor doesn’t (want to) speak English? It’s the first time I experienced such within healthcare in Stockholm (have been living and working here for 2 years). So, all in all, just a whole bunch of wtf was that with some cute attempts on adding the discrimination-sauce.
The place in it of itself is dark and a bit depressing.
Felt sorry for the doctor - she’s obviously not happy with what she’s doing in life as well as having some issues trying to sound offensive. Always wonder how do such people don’t think of the feedback they might get that can directly affect their work/life. Anyhow, luckily that’s not my problem. Wishing her all the best. And would never recommend anyone to go there :)
